All those whose moms have something to say (and an opinion to share) about the home accent pieces and features in your house, say “me!”

Okay, so it’s not that bad. But—even though I have been on my own for many years, I still feel that pull inside me to make Momma proud when she and Dad come for a visit. Plus, when I travel home from Toronto to Brampton, her home always looks so nicely put together. I know, I know; it took her many years to create the spaces she envisioned with the accents she loves and the windows and doors she probably always wanted. And, I know I’m many years behind her and my dad—so I should cut myself some slack and enjoy the ride and memories that help make a house into a home. Okay.

But, I am thrilled about my pending little upgrade through Brock Doors and Windows: a new entry door. Oh, it’s beautiful and I am not telling Mom about it; my parents will see it when they get here next month. See, I’ve learned that if I just take the plunge and do the thing and then show her—she makes far fewer comments about my choice and is more prone to simple “oooh’s” and “ahhh’s.” Smart, I know.

So, let me tell you about my experience with Brock and why I’m just so excited!

First, the door is this beautiful wood grain in a deep cherry finish. I feel so grown up just typing this. It is a single door, but it is extra wide to fill my entryway more and add a bit of grandeur. I had a hard time choosing glass accents, though. Good thing I had some expert guidance. Shout out to my Brock professional! He was extremely helpful. He walked me through a series of questions to help lead me to what I most wanted for my little home:

• How important is natural light in your entryway?
• How important privacy?
• Do you like how tempered glass looks (various options)?
• Would you prefer transom lights over top of your door or a window in the door—or both?
• Do you want a peephole?
• What colours do you like on an entry door and what do you dislike?
• Do you prefer doorknobs or door handles/pulls?
• Which direction do you want your door to open?

In the three months I spent scrolling through Pinterest and HGTV Instagram photos, I made zero decisions on my preferences. In contrast, while working with my Brock expert, I discovered what I really liked and disliked and was able to move forward with solid decisions and confidence in a matter of a day or two. Impressive, right?

My entry door replacement project in Scarborough, ON kicks-off this weekend and my parents will be here just a few weeks later. I’m so excited to unveil my entry door to them—especially my mom! Plus, I’m certain I’ll be using Brock Doors and Windows again—for the window replacement project I’m brainstorming for the upstairs bedrooms… Cheers!
