Why Trade Professionals Choose Vinyl Over Aluminum

August 26, 2021 0

When venturing into a new construction project, it takes a great deal of planning and procurement to finalize the project and begin commencing work. You’ll want to ensure that with today’s modern needs you have a plethora of outlets and fixtures throughout the home;  well, such is the same for windows.

It’s become popular to ensure all modern-day homes have a great deal of natural light pouring into each room within the house. This is to avoid that dingy and dark atmosphere that most homes constructed prior to Y2K struggled with.

Natural light is a fantastic way to enhance the look and feel of a room and has also been proven to boost your immune system. Not only that, but it is a clear method of saving energy by reducing the use of electricity and seasonal heating and cooling requirements.

With all things considered, you are going to want the most efficient window on the market to meet both the aesthetic and functional requirements that the homeowner expects once moving into their new construction home.

So, what is the better choice of the two commonly used materials?

Vinyl Windows

  1. Appearance:
Vinyl windows have a larger frame than today’s comparison piece, aluminum. Vinyl windows usually mimic the appearance of wood, a traditional and conventional choice of many homeowners due to its realistic appearance and endless customizations.
  2. Durability:
Modern advances in vinyl window technology make these windows more durable and resistant to peeling, warping, cracking, and fading. Unlike today’s comparison piece, if a vinyl window becomes dented, you are unlikely to see it due to the materials being consistent throughout.
  3. Energy Efficiency:
If one of the main priorities for your project and the homeowner’s end goals are to ensure efficiency throughout the home, vinyl is the answer. Vinyl windows are incredibly effective at reducing heat transfer and light penetration, making it an optimal choice for regulating a room’s internal temperature and keeping energy costs low.
  4. Cost:
Keeping costs low and making strategic buying decisions are incredibly important during the planning phases of any new home build. Providing informed recommendations to the homeowner and staying on budget are key in ensuring a seamless planning process and a satisfying end-result. You’ll be happy to hear (if you don’t already know) that vinyl is 30-50% less than aluminum.
  5. Installation:
When it comes to installation, vinyl windows are much easier to install due to their overall flexibility.

Aluminum Windows

  1. Appearance:
Aluminum windows are often thin-framed, allowing more overall glass and an unobstructed view. Often seen in commercial properties, providing more of a commercial look and feel.
  2. Durability:
Widely known for their ability to dent or chip, aluminum windows are much easier to damage. These types of windows are also at a higher risk of corrosion and fading and are not impervious to this occurring over time.
  3. Energy Efficiency:
Considering this window is made of metal, they will conduct heat and cold. This means that during the summer months, the home will hold onto heat, causing the homeowner’s HVAC system to work a little harder. The same goes for the winter months, the aluminum make will not insulate against the cold as well as vinyl and has a higher chance of condensation.
  4. Cost:
Aluminum windows are, on average, 30% more than vinyl windows due to the higher material and manufacturing costs.
  5. Installation:
Installing aluminum windows can pose an unforeseen difficulty if the measurements are even slightly off. Aluminum is not a flexible material, so installation may take longer than anticipated if measurements are not exact.

Understanding the needs and wants of your clients is important when making your decision about the ideal window material.

Going through the advantages is key to making a quick and effective decision when sourcing any new build project’s material needs – expediting your project plans and bringing them to life.
